Karsun has an employee-centered workplace that places flexibility, innovation and collaboration at the heart of our business. For most of our team members, that means they work remotely. And while that is the preferred style of work for many, we also know connecting in person is important to many of our team members. That is why we brought back some of our most popular in-person events this year. These included family picnics, team celebrations and community events. The result was new opportunities for team Karsun to connect with each other, within their communities and with our core values.
One of those core values is fun, and this year marked the return of many of Karsun’s in-person social events. These were opportunities for Karsun families, teams and partners to meet face-to-face while enjoying ice cream socials, farm days and other activities. Additionally, we shared team accomplishments, presented innovative creations and recognized extraordinary work in monthly and quarterly remote events. Nearly 90 people received one of our quarterly employee awards this year alone. While many of these awards celebrated performance, several team members each quarter were awarded for embodying Karsun’s core values.
For our Northern Virginia team members, this resulted in teams reconnecting with their community. The neighborhood clean-up team resumed their Adopt-a-Highway project, focusing on a new area near Karsun’s headquarters in Herndon, Virginia. The Wellness Team also led a Fit for Fall Challenge culminating in Run on the Rocks. This event, sponsored by Karsun, benefits Team AIMS, an organization supporting our local Washington, D.C., region and global communities.
The Wellness Team also ensured that our team had the resources to spend their time away from work in the way that best supports their needs. For that reason, we announced several new benefits this year. These updated benefits added parental leave, enhanced paid time off and new employee perks and discounts in addition to the award-winning benefits already enjoyed by Karsun team members. We were honored to receive our first Top Workplaces Culture award for Work-Life Flexibility. These awards came as we renewed our commitment to an open, transparent, employee-centered culture.
As we prepare for 2024, we are excited to watch our team grow and thrive together. That includes new opportunities to connect and collaborate. We are actively hiring for remote roles nationwide. If you are ready to join us in the new year, check out our open positions and Find Your Next as part of team Karsun.
It didn’t surprise us that employee experience roles, including Chief People Officer (CPO), topped LinkedIn’s list of fastest-growing job titles for 2022. While these roles may have dominated the professional networking site’s Jobs on the Rise report this year, we long ago made a commitment to an employee-centric culture. We brought in our first CPO this year, Kelly Demaitre, as we continued our investment in our Karsun team. Throughout this year, we continued our journey to building a culture where everyone can Grow with Karsun and Do Extraordinary.
Creating a Collaborative and Diverse Culture
This year Karsun won its second Best CEOs for Diversity award from Comparably.com. The rating site asks current employees to rank leadership, including our CEO Sundar Vaidyanathan, on traits associated with diverse and inclusive spaces. For the second year in a row, we also won a Best Company Outlook award from the site. Part of our commitment to an open, collaborative environment is facilitating small and large gatherings where Karsun team members ask questions and learn about the future of the organization. This includes our monthly Coffee and Lunch with Leadership programs. Hosted by the Karsun executive team, small employee groups share their experiences and provide direct feedback to the highest level decision makers in our organization for review and action.
Our executives also host recurring All Hands and Fireside chat events throughout the year. For the first time this year, those All Hands events included new Core Value, Do Extraordinary, and Team MVP awards. More than 20 people were recognized for their commitment to excellence, innovation, teamwork, integrity, and incorporating fun while doing extraordinary for Karsun customers.
Another unique fireside event was this year’s Celebrating Women Leaders session. In this moderated session, women leaders across our company shared their experiences managing large teams, growing their careers, and excelling in the IT industry. This is one of several events Karsun engaged in for Women’s History Month. In addition to the fireside chat, we also sponsored the Future of Work: Pandemic Pivot virtual conference for International Women’s Day and appeared at local events in the Washington, D.C. region, including the Women in Technology Career Fair.
In addition to special events, Karsun also launched new training and professional development programs this year. As our team members still hone their technical skills through bootcamps and other offerings included in Karsun Academy, we also offered new comprehensive management and people leader training. For those based near our newly reopened Herndon, Virginia office, we hosted offsites with opportunities to collaborate in person.
While most Karsun roles have the option to work 100% remotely, we are also proud that our local employees continually rate their experience working with us highly. For the second year in a row, Comparably ranked us a Best Company in Washington, D.C. and among the Best Companies for Perks and Benefits. Meanwhile, the Oklahoman named us among the Top Workplaces in Oklahoma. Comparably also described Karsun as a place where we solve interesting engineering problems, encourage flex work, and grew together as we overcame pandemic challenges.
Recognition for our commitment to flexibility and investment in valuable perks and benefits underscores the importance of a good workplace experience for our employees. At a recent All Hands, we announced new benefits for the coming year, including enhanced Paid Leave and new Parental Leave offerings. Maintaining this commitment to the employee experience is essential to our culture and growth. We hope you join us as we discover what’s next together.
Each year Karsun Solutions celebrates the start of summer with the families behind our team. In Virginia, Karsun families returned to the farm. Here they participated in hayrides, petting areas, and face painting. Oklahoma families gathered alongside Karsun leadership at Frontier City. This local themed amusement park features coasters and other family activities.
These annual picnics introduce our newest teams to Team Karsun. Last year we welcomed growing FAA teams in Oklahoma and Virginia. This year our FEMA teams joined the Karsun Solutions family. These yearly picnics are a celebration of growth. More than 200 people were pictured in the annual team photo in Virginia, a reflection of Karsun’s fast growth over the past ten years.
Due to our larger size, we recently revealed we are moving into a new home. Karsun will open a new headquarters in Herndon, Virginia this year. In addition to corporate functions, the venue is expected to house a training facility and the Karsun Innovation Center along with Virginia based delivery teams. Karsun expects to hire 100 additional roles this year to support the expansion. Interested applicants may research openings or register for open house events at KarsunCares.com.

Karsun families returned to Ticonderoga Farm for our annual company picnic. This year the Karsun crew and their families were treated to snow cones, sweets, and a fajita fiesta! After lunch Co-Founder and Chief Architect, Kartik Mecheri and COO, Terry Miller said a few works then announced Jay Kondapalli as the new CAMEO Small Business Program Manager. Adults and children alike could then choose between a variety of activities on the farm including face painting, relay races, a cricket match, hayrides and more. Families formed teams to complete a farm-wide scavenger hunt. Scavenger hunt prizes were awarded by the GoLean.io and Karsun Innovation Center team.
The company picnic is one of two yearly events Karsun holds to celebrate families. In April Karsun hosts Take Your Child to Work Day. Last Thursday Karsun Solutions welcomed children into our offices to celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day. The annual event was hosted at Karsun’s Herndon, Virginia Headquarters. This year’s events focused on dual themes of internet safety and digital citizenship.
Karsun employees educated the kids on topics such as online research techniques, identifying unsafe situations online, and protecting personal information. In a session on the danger of too much screen time, kids were asked to think about ways they can create quality time with family and friends by unplugging. In addition to learning new board games, kids participated in teambuilding and communication activities.
The Karsun executive team also hosted a question and answer session. CEO Sundar Vaidyanathan and COO Terry Miller introduced kids to their parents’ jobs and Karsun’s role as the Enterprise Modernization Experts! They finished the day making posters thanking their parents and Karsun employees for their hard work.
Take Your Child to Work Day is one of the several ways Karsun builds a culture focused on work-life balance and professional growth. This yearly activity is one of several offered to employees including a yearly family picnic, monthly celebration events, and employee clubs. Using collages and worksheets participants brainstormed solutions to today’s challenges.
In the afternoon, Karsun hosted a presentation on the relationship between computers, software, networks and the cloud. Staff led an exercise where kids created their own private game servers on Agar.io.
