Each summer, we welcome a new intern class to our Karsun Innovation Center. These Intern Innovators experimented with automation, discovered how to leverage artificial intelligence for software development, and worked with experts from our emerging technology research and development team. In this interview, Visvajit Murali, a computer science student, shares his experience innovating with the enterprise modernization experts while finding his next.

Finding His Next: From College to Contributing in Innovative Environments

First, please tell us about yourself. Where are you going to school? What are you studying? What do you like to do in your free time?

Visvajit: My name is Visvajit Murali, and I am currently a student at the University of Virginia, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. In my free time, I enjoy coding personal projects, exploring new technologies, and staying active through track and field. I also love spending time with friends and family, and volunteering in my community.

What do you want to do after this internship? What are your career goals?

Visvajit: After this internship, I plan to continue my studies while seeking opportunities to apply my skills in real-world settings. My career goals include becoming a proficient software developer, specializing in full-stack development and machine learning. I aim to work in innovative environments where I can contribute to impactful projects and continuously grow as a professional.

Automation, Containerization, and Web Application Development

Could you share a little bit about the project you worked on as part of this internship? What challenge does it solve? What technologies and tools are you using?

Visvajit: During my internship at Karsun Solutions, I worked on enhancing application features and user experience by automating tedious tasks. I utilized technologies such as PostgreSQL for database management, Spring Boot for back-end services, and Docker and Podman for containerization and deployment. Furthermore, I worked with AppSheet and AppScript to optimize workflows and user experiences. This experience allowed me to work on both front-end and back-end technologies, contributing to the development and maintenance of web applications.

Cultivating Continuous Learning and Curiosity

What is your favorite part about working with the Karsun Innovation Center? Is there a weekly meeting or ritual you enjoy? The opportunity to learn more or get a new certification?

Visvajit: My favorite part about working with the Karsun Innovation Center is the collaborative and supportive environment. I particularly enjoy the “Show Don’t Tell” meetings where we discuss the work we have completed over the last two weeks. These sessions are inspiring and provide valuable insights into the work KIC conducts. Additionally, the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and potentially earn new certifications has been incredibly rewarding.

What is your biggest takeaway from your experience as an intern at Karsun?

Visvajit: The biggest takeaway from my experience as an intern at Karsun is the importance of continuous learning and adaptation. The fast-paced environment and exposure to cutting-edge technologies have taught me to stay curious and proactive in expanding my skill set. Additionally, the teamwork and mentorship I’ve experienced have underscored the value of collaboration in achieving successful outcomes.
